D’origine haïtienne, Myrtelle Chéry a fait ses débuts en dessin et peinture dès l’âge de huit ans. Elle a fréquenté durant neuf ans l’école de peinture du Centre d’Art Haïtien, une institution qui fut le principal promoteur de l’art haïtien à travers le monde.

Myrtelle Chéry, of Haitian origin, made her début in drawing and painting at the age of eight. During nine years she attended the school of painting at the Centre d’Art Haïtien, an institution that promotes Haitian art around the world.

Dès ses premières créations picturales, Myrtelle Chéry a fait montre d’un talent certain pour la peinture tant au niveau technique que créatif. Elle a participé depuis ses débuts aux différentes expositions annuelles du Centre d’Art Haïtien jusqu’en 1986.

From the beginning, Myrtelle Chéry displayed a real talent for painting both technically and creatively. She participated annually in various exhibitions at the Centre d’Art Haïtien until 1986.

Établie à Montréal la même année pour poursuivre ses études post-secondaires, Myrtelle Chéry compte parmi ses diplômes universitaires un certificat en Histoire de l’Art et une maîtrise en Gestion de Projets. Durant ses études professionnelles, l’artiste a fréquenté des galeries et ateliers d’art en Amérique du Nord et en Europe, ce qui lui a valu de côtoyer des artistes de renom.

Having settled in Quebec (Canada) that same year to proceed with her post-secondary education, Myrtelle Chéry obtained a master’s degree in project management and a certificate in Art History. During her studies, the artist continued to show a strong interest in Art. At the same time, she visited art galleries and studios in North America and Europe, which allowed her to meet many famous artists.

Depuis 1996 Myrtelle Chéry fait connaître sa peinture en Amérique du Nord et participe à plusieurs expositions, notamment au Canada et aux États-Unis où ses oeuvres connaissent un vif succès. Fascinée par les gens et habitée par la nostalgie des couleurs de son pays d’origine, l’artiste reflète dans sa peinture l’essence d’une culture riche et vivante. Reconnue pour ses visages lumineux, pour ses scènes pittoresques où réalité et rêve se côtoient, Myrtelle Chéry peint l’émotion et l’éclat de sa palette, conjuguée à la subtilité des formes, rendent hommage à la beauté.

Myrtelle Chéry made herself known on the North American Art market only in 1996. Since then, she participated in many painting shows, especially in Canada and the United Sates where her works are acclaimed. Fascinated by the people and influenced by the nostalgia for the colours of her native country, the artist mirrors in her painting the gist of the complex and lively Haitian culture. Renown for a radiant visages and her vivid scenes where dreams comme close to reality Myrtelle Chéry paints emotion and the richness of her palette pays a real tribute to beauty.
